What we measure · Included in the Compass Assessment

Body composition and strength testing in Scottsdale, beyond the scale.

Body composition testing at Paragon: a Styku 3D scan for lean mass and fat distribution, VALD force plates and directly measured resting metabolic rate. Taylor Cushman, MD, MSc, who holds an MSc in Exercise and Wellness, sets your training targets.

01 · What the testing day involves

Three measurements that add context to your weight.

Styku 3D scan

An optical 3D scan for body-composition estimates and circumference measurements.

VALD force plates

Peak force from an isometric pull, power from squat and countermovement jumps, balance and left-right load share, read as a set.

Resting metabolic rate

The VO2 Master analyzer measures resting energy use directly, to inform your nutrition plan.

02 · What the numbers mean

Strength and lean mass are the numbers the scale hides.

People at the same weight can differ in body composition and strength. Your Blueprint sets a training block with targets for lean mass, peak force and power, plus balance work if load share is uneven. The same tests repeat at each evaluation.

03 · Where it fits

The testing day inside the assessment.

Measured on the Compass testing day, after blood work and alongside VO₂ max, and read with your labs in one Blueprint.

04 · Common questions

Before you book.

Is Styku the same as a DEXA scan?

No. Styku is a 3D optical scan; DEXA is a different test. Your clinician can discuss bone-density testing or referral when appropriate.

Do I need to be fit for force-plate testing?

No. The protocol is adapted to you. It sets a baseline for follow-up, not a score to pass.

Can I get body-composition testing on its own?

No. It’s part of the Compass testing day and read with your lab results.
